IGUANA DE BANDA (iggy & the stooges) - Etiqueta Negra De Lugo lp $18.00
The best set of Raw Power outtakes to date. Some how there are previously unreleased mixes, alternate takes, instrumentals and tracks. The infamous Ni**er Man finally sees the light of day on the LP.
Limited to 1,000 copies.

NARCOLEPTICS - Demo cassette $5.00
2013 is a year dedicated to reissues, but there's been some demos that give hope for flesh blood to the next few years. NARCOLEPTICS' demo is one of them. Like FRAMTID's new lp sees them stepping further into hardcore territory than before, in concept NARCOLEPTICS are much the same. These demo songs could have made a good, straight ahead hardcore demo. Instead NARCOLEPTICS has the right amount of fuzzed out noise guitar tone to make distinct road rash raw guitar riffs, backed up by frantic d-beat drumming and cranked bass distortion. The vocals have enough reverb to be noticeable without going over the top. The little bit of this and little bit of that flavor with the great songwriting displayed here make a killer.
Limited to 100 copies.

DROPPINGS - Issue 1 zine + cassette $4.00
Droppings includes an Atlanta Scene Report, interviews with JOINT D≠, TOTAL CONTROL, KREMLIN, & GARY WRONG. Comes with a cassette featuring tracks from the interviewed bands (minus Kremlin) and a smattering of Atlanta bands from the past and present. Look out for issues 2 & 3 coming soon.
16 pages.

BRAIN CAR / BAD TASTE - Split 7" $6.00
Rochester's BAD TASTE put out a split single with fellow townies BRAIN CAR, where they spend some 3 odd minutes in "Warzone High" drooling and groaning in a bad trip mess of warbling guitar lines and sloppy hangover drumming. The whole thing sounds like it was written and recorded on the spot in a neglected, vandalized high school bathroom by a bunch of pimple-faced freaks, smoking ditch wee and cutting class. The kinda noise made by kids who pretended their BMX bikes are Harley's and who cruise around town mean mugging, trying to convince the rest of the world. Inspired by them, I wanted to write a bit about a couple tracks of crude psychedelia (I'm using this term generously), exposed to me within or through punk - It's a weird world. Thanks to the people who turned me on to this shit...
(Concrete Gorilla)
BRAIN CAR are true self absorbed assholes who enjoy subjecting meager audiences into submission, both live and on-record. Using a BEACH BOYS hit as their crutch, BRAIN CAR shovel syrupy goof in stereo for two stinkin' minutes. Let your color fly, or don't.
(Got Myself)

GENERACION SUICIDA - Con La Muerte A Tu Lado lp $11.00In 1977 LA, THE PLUGZ, THE ZEROS, X and ALICE BAG would be wishing they played like GENERACION SUICIDA.
When the KBD revival bubble burst almost a decade ago GENERACION SUICIDA would have easily held their own. Even with the numerous Danish heavy hitters like YOUNG WASTENERS, NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS, COLA FREAKS and GORILLA ANGREB, whom they most closely resemble out of that troupe. Considering it isn't cool to be doing some '77 punk style band at the moment I don't see much room posturing and cool points. Real deal punk couldn't have come at a better time. Lyrics in Spanish too. All around good record.

NERV - Life? 7" $6.50NERV blisters off the speakers with the only thing holding it together is a mutual love of falling apart. A bomb that can't explode hard enough or fast enough collapses in on itself. These songs are nearly as terminal as h100s frenzied blasts.

NUBS - Job 7" $7.00Last place at the Special Olympics huffing gas couldn't be this dumb. One of the greatest punk songs ever. 33 years for this classic to get reissued is insanity. Previously resorting to the numerous bands that cover "Job" cause $150 price tag was in the way has gone by the wayside. Last Laugh sold out of these in just under a week. Grab this before it too become a collectors item.

WIZZARD SLEEVE / GARY WRONG GROUP - Halloween Violence Split 7" $7.00
This split comes just in time for Halloween including a bloody wolf mask! Blast the record and put on that mask while handing out firecrackers, broken circuit boards and raw meat laced with LSD to the kids in your hood.
GARY WRONG GROUP is indeed a Dream Smasher or perhaps nightmare maker. GARY WRONG GROUP finely craft a soundscape of sci-fi awe with fateful undertones. Any fears are given life in the crackin of smashing glass and a voice from a broken megaphone. If that isn't enough it is a second person narrative of fear.
We get the first (maybe only/last) WIZZARD SLEEVE track after some time. Loupgarou comes terrorizing in to quickly slow to a lurch. A drone of noise like an opium smoking aboriginal on a didgeridoo intermittently interrupted with a foreboding, cliff hanging guitar riff. Lyrics come in with enough reverb that you see the springs inside the amp jiggling in your mind alongside WIZZARD SLEEVE's notable dark tones. The frequency of these bursts increases. The ferocity rises to screams and guitars collapse to horrid noise.

TYVEK - Domestic Five Cassette $5.50
Five new songs in practice/demo tape-style. Recorded direct to boombox for maximum transparency/opacity! (for the wussies, it sounds great)  No hi-speed dubbing-- tape is already fast, duh. NSA has not heard this tape.

NO FUCKER - Conquer The Innocent 7" $5.00
A storage shed had been holding dead stock copies of NO FUCKER's final ep, Conquer The Innocent, captive years after it has been out of print.  Recently unleashed and now terrorizing the public again!  Raw, Swedish style hardcore/punk from upstate New York.  A wall of white noise from CRUDITY,  a back bone of heavy guitar riffs a la ANTI CIMEX and SHITLICKERS driven by a DISCHARGErhythm.  Released in 2008 and called a masterpiece by some.  In their time NO FUCKER seemed to go rather unnoticed beyond the nuttiest punk connoisseurs.  Today not much has changed and their records are desirable.  Not in the 'Crazy rare.  I want this just for ebay.' bullshit.  Rather the 'I want to blare this fucker! sort.

INVOCATION OF OBSCENE GODS #3 $4.00
Brought you by Backwoods Butcher Records care of skull crusher Doug Long. Sixty four half-sized pages of obnoxious filth for the literate idiot. Interviews with COCKNOOSE, AUTOPSY, BREATHILIZOR, SKULLHOG, VICKERS, Steveggs of P.O.E. / NUTSCREAMER plus another classic old interview with RUPTURE, more GEROGERIGEGEGE obsession, a live report from CSMD, general wisdom from Dr. Jason Wade, stupid columns and reviews of awful records. A cavalcade of maturity and good taste!

THEE NODES - All Day Every Day 7" $7.50
Take a head from THE MUMMIES and slap it on the body of CEO of HEWHOCORRUPTS Inc., Tommy Camaro and we've got not just a visual aesthetic for THEE NODES but, even bit if of their musical flavor in the six deranged songs for punk freaks on this ep. Maybe pigs will fly now that I used THE MUMMIES and HEWHOCORRUPTS side by side. I never thought I'd see the day. But this really is like THE MUMMIES gone hardcore. Abrasive, intense, in your face, skronk rock and fucking roll. Garage/Punk/Hardcore: now we all can unite, hold hands and fuck some shit up.
Only 195 copies.

LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS - Sex Pit 7" $6.00
Someone popped their gigantic zit and the pus exploded onto my face. Definitely got some in my mouth. electric eels fans take note.
When the records were delivered I could smell this patchouli drenched box on my porch from inside the house. LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS truly are some sick scum.
Now let me see you nitwitz pogo.

BITS OF SHIT - Meat Thump 7" $6
Bits of Shit are the toughest gang in town. Four jean vested droogs out for a good time who aren't scared to show some muscle if the situation arises. The club everyone wants to be a part of but no one wants to stand across from. Well the boys really delivers on this one. Two tracks of brain crushing punk. Ferocious, guitar damaged, and completely essential. Mid-era Flag with an unhinged loon as a front man who howls, growls, and sneers his way through both tracks. Equal parts Bonn Scott and Johnny Rotten. I don't know what cave they dragged this guy out of, but they're the better for it because he's got the best voice in the game. The living embodiment of every character Lee Ving played in the early 80's and just the kind of guy you want leading your club. TOTAL PUNK!!!!

PISSWALKER - Demo Cassette $4
PISSWALKER's demo is pumped with abrasive fury.  Five one minute blasters with dirty chainsaw guitar tone and riffs like GAUZE.  The lyrics are sung in Spanish.    A wonderful demo that stinks of demented midwest.  Omaha, Nebraska can kneel to it's greatest hardcore band ever.  If 80's Japanese hardcore and that Cleveland sound are remotely interesting to you, this will have you smashing your dining room chairs in seconds.

Fortunately Tian An Men 89 records is cranking out releases this year.  As much as I'd like to go on and on about how Tian An Men 89 does everything right, everything DIY punk should be about, I am just happy to bring a few of these records in.  In these records is mostly bands from the Middle East and all coming from nations whose major religion is Islam.

V/A - CHAOS IN MOROCCO LP $16
The most acknowledged punk from Africa historically has been from South Africa.  Five bands on Chaos In Morocco brings insight to punk from the other end of the continent.  ZLLAQ WELLA MOUT kick things off with mid tempo punk that carries nice melody.  A little bit of ska is mixed into one of the songs.  ZWM would fit nicely in at Hellcat Records or Fat Wreck Chords camp.  The vocals are sung in native tongue, thankfully.  Weather or not it is Moroccan Arabic or Berber I can't tell.  W.O.R.M. claim to be Morocco's first ever hardcore band.  True or not, W.O.R.M. is fierce.  While the songs vary slightly in style they are all fashioned after US hardcore.  The first track has an air of OUT COLD so this is a no brainer.  It seems like HOBA HOBA SPIRIT is difficult to describe.  I don't know anything of Moroccan folk music or pop, rock and roll and HOBA HOBA SPIRIT sounds so different to western ears.  However I think the explanation is simple.  The lyrics here are not in English.  The songs are rife with sounds native to the country.  HOBA HOBA SPIRIT is Moroccan punk.  I eat this kind of shit up personally.  These three songs (one's a cover) will challenge the punk parameters you have set.  Great stuff.  RIOT STONES tear through two songs of blistering hardcore thrash crossover.  One in English the other not.  Headbanging would not be out of line here.  THE PROTESTERS round out the comp.  One song of mid tempo punk rock and roll.  Reminiscent RANCID's Let's Go album with vocals that aren't as annoying.

DETOX / BEIRUT SCUM SOCIETY                                                                   Underground Lebanon Split 7" $6
DETOX is female fronted misanthropic powerhouse of hardcore/punk.  The frustration with humankind and, the culture and society created by them is present in this record with zero frills.  "I feel I need a chainsaw down the street.... You're asking for it sitting in your car"!  Tell us how you really feel.  "Great White Human" even damns imaginary friends cause it'd be another human being to put up with.  Woah!   DETOX slashes through the bullshit.  Musically this one hell of a ride.  Few bands can skip from on place to another musically without leaving the listener feeling uncomfortable.  Fortunately DETOX is one of the few.  On the whole they stick more to brutal and harsh punk.  Eight songs flowing one to the other with no seams.  BEIRUT SCUM SOCIETY's first track "Cheap Thrills" is an ode to nihilistic, drug abusing party life and sounds like East Bay Ray had a hand in writing.  Needless to say it has some cool guitar work in the fold.  In all, the songs are upbeat rock n roll you could dance too but, they are still rough as hell. A lot like THE SUICIDE COMMANDOS and PLASMATICS in their early years complete with vocals fashioned like a Wendy 'O Williams who lost her mind and is scratching at the walls of a rubber room.

OVERKILL FOR PROFIT / EDEM - Oiled Caspian Shores Split 7" $6

Oiled Caspian Shores features two bands from Baku City in Azerbaijan.  I am guessing a lot of people have never heard of Azerbaijan.  Azerbaijan shares Iran's northern border.  EDEM and OVERKILL FOR PROFIT sing in Azerbaijani and have English translations of the lyrics.  OVERKILL FOR PROFIT play hardcore with the aggressive style of late 90's and early 00's straight edge bands like CARRY ON, TEN YARD FIGHT and HOLDING ON with a melodic edge like that of CHAMPION.  EDEM open with a spacey, clean guitar tapping riff that is pretty infectious quickly joined by a crazy bass line.  The following is pop punk revisting themes on the opening.  Not a kind of old school RAMONES type of pop but the "Defend Pop Punk" around now.  The result is this CAP'N JAZZ / MAN OVERBOARD mixed tune.  The second song is straight modern day pop punk.

V/A - NEVER MIND THE TAQWACORES, HERE IS THE REAL DEAL 7" $6
Never Mind The Taqwacores is a Pakistani compilation.  There are eight bands on the 7" comp so you have a feeling of what's to come.  The title is obviously a dis to Taqwacore so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say these bands believe there is no room for Islam in punk.  Probably all religions for that matter.  The A side is more relaxed with only two bands.  The first, MARG play a downtrodden post hardcore song with lyrics in Punjabi?.   CORNHOLE sounds like they are shooting for an IRON MAIDEN sort of thing but aren't quite ready for prime time.  BVLGHVM grindcore.  10 seconds of blast beats, a heavy breakdown and then one more second of blast beats.  CHOOTS plays some crazy demented DC hardcore like VOID and UNITED MUTATION.  MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS mix hardcore, grind and thrash riffs.  FORESKIN is sure to be hated by the politically correct and shreds like VILENTLY ILL.  GLORIFIED WHORE MONGERS play 80's hardcore thrash like SIEGE, RIPCORD and RUPTURE.  KAFIR E AZAM is another grindcore blazer.

BASTARDOS SIN NOMBRE - Subterraneo Medellin LP $16
One of the definitive late 80's and early 90's hardcore bands from Medellin city in Colombia.  Very excited about this.  Contains La Ciudad Podrida comp. tracks, Guerra Bacteriologica and Brigada Subterranea EPs, a few unreleased tracks and some live recordings (they sound good).  BSN is as punk as they come.  Lyric sheet in Spanish and English, few fliers, 500 copies pressed, Euro import.

NASA SPACE UNIVERSE - Across Wounded Galaxies LP $13
Across Wounded Galaxies sounds like end result of a DIE KREUZEN record produced by SAM MCPHEETERS after they had spent weeks listening to a healthy dose of FRANK ZAPPA AND THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION.  It'd be easy to jump and point to the beer soaked cabin fever of midwestern lull from cities like Cleveland, Minneapolis, Detroit or Milwaukee that drive one to the edges of their mind.  NASA SPACE UNIVERS (NSU) is from Southern California surprisingly.  NSU spews the kind of intense mania that is hellbent on self destruction.  Busy bass lines askew from your typical hardcore have a decidedly post punk feel.  The guitar has a great noise rock quality.  These guys give contemporary hardcore a choke with sincere lunacy and a sound that is different and all their own.  It really boils down to a comfortably discordant hardcore record.  While it's on my mind, using some contemporary bands, think HOMOSTUPIDS, BILL BONDSMEN and PROTOMARTYR in one package.  Getting geeked out for a second this comes with a screen printed cover, hand numbered out of 200.

NEW ARRIVAL 6/22

FRAMTID - Defeat Of Civilization LP $12
I think it's safe to say Defeat Of Civilization is inarguaby the most anticipated hardcore record of 2013.  Eleven years since FRAMTID's stellar debut LP with only a few split 7"s in between they bring this follow up LP.  10 face melting tracks of crushing riffs, guitar with the perfect distorted noise mix there is, and precise, manic drumming.  FRAMTID is a full force Japanese hardcore assault based on classic Swedish hardcore.

GAS RAG - Human Rights EP $5
As of yet, the best demo of 2013 was dropped by Chicago's GAS RAG a few months ago.  Out of the same recording session of the demo comes the Human Rights ep.  Sickening mid-west hardcore.  THE FIX and POISON IDEA smoking d-beat rocks.  When consciousness slips away from huffing gas and you begin to fall face first into the floor, the moment of impact when you bust out a few teeth is where the Human Rights ep comes from.

NEW ARRIVALS 6/3

GARY WRONG GROUP - Knights Of Misery 12" $10.00
After WIZZARD SLEEVE had a (pterodactyl) meltdown, front man Captain Beyonce began a promising career as a solo artist with GARY WRONG.  Lets say WIZZARD SLEAVE has a brother who is a mortician that you always see at the local watering hole and is one of those socially awkward (creepy) extroverts.  You are quite sure that in his spare time he skins babies to make banana hammocks.  His name happens to be GARY WRONG.  Or like if early SPK (the more coherent songs) was punkified and played through a Buffalo Bill filter.  Would you fuck Gary Wrong?  I'd fuck Gary Wrong.  I'd fuck Gary Wrong hard.  This shit is great!  Contains their elusive debut single, a reworked and better Heroin Beach plus three new tracks courtesy of TOTAL PUNK and JETH-ROW records.

THE SLEAZE - Tecktonik Girlz 12" $10.00
THE SLEAZE is like one of those late 70's punk / power-pop groups throwing jagged chunks of concrete at you.  That is the simple explanation.  Make no mistake though this band is as punk as it comes.  It has been guaranteed that THE SLEAZE is confused by the KBD acronym and that they would never use a geographical location to complete the sentence Bloodstains Across.... because THE SLEAZE is entirely ignorant of these phenomena.  This would explain THE SLEAZE' all encompassing '77 punk that is so damn good.  It's genuine.  It is unpolished sound and ability yet not inept.  Song writing that is too damn catchy.  It'll drive you nuts. It has attitude everywhere.  An ethos of let downs and disgust and stuff that is brilliantly dumb.  You know what I'm talking about.  THE SLEAZE doesn't know any better but think of THE FEATURES' "Floozie Of The Neighborhood", RHINO 39, GIZMOS, MASSMEDIA and, especially in the vocal delivery THE STITCHES.  Tecktonik Girlz is another total punk record from TOTAL PUNK.  THE SLEAZE already had well received singles and it seems that with Tecktonik Girlz comes a lot more murmuring about the band.  THE SLEAZE is kaput and there is 500 copies of this.....

NEW ARRIVALS 5/17

MANBIKI CHOCOLATE - Super Dimensional Hardcore LP $12
18 tracks of raging hardcore from Utsunomiya City, Japan. Manbiki Chocolate Released their first record, an 8” flexi disc titled “Manbiki Densetsu Part 1” in 1990, and a self-released CD “Soloban” in 1999, both of which have become highly sought after collector’s items. The first era of the band being possibly the last of the band to play stylistically 80’s Japanese HC, while the second era perfects their sound and evolves it in a way that predated sounds heards on albums like GISM’s Sonicrime Therapy, or more recent albums like Slang’s Life Made Me Hardcore. Super Dimensional Hardcore includes the complete flexi and CD tracks as well as tracks from their mysterious Manbiki Densetsu Part 2 Tape, Fuck Off Compilation, and 3 completely unreleased tracks, all from the original masters. Includes 8 page full color booklet including a full band history, photos, and unseen full color versions of the original black and white album art.

HUMAN EYE - 4: Into Unkown LP $15
Hmmm.... I'm at a loss for words by now for Human Eye out side of  exuberant phrases like "Fuck Yeah!" or "It's Fucking Amazing" or "It's So Good." sometimes just a single "Awesome!" works.  Nursing at the teat of KBD comps and huffing glue since probably middle school and segueing to mushrooms, some of the 60's best psych and garage, Krautrock and prog and experimentation and skronk and dirty fuzz and aliens and crazy visual art and a mixture that is overly complicated and will probably never turn out nicely but it turns out beyond and better than any of your imaginations and four albums, each possibly better than the previous, in under a decade and I am back to "Fuck Yeah!" and "Awesome!" and if you don't listen to this stuff I feel bad cause you don't know.  Plus using "acid" and "punk" in the same sentence is getting redundant with HUMAN EYE.

I will be out of town over the weekend at Horrible Fest.

NEW ARRIVALS 5/13

UNA BESTIA INCONTROLABLE - Observant Com El Mon Es Destrux LP $17.00
This record is exactly what should happen when prime Am Rep noise rock like Unsane or Hammerhead mingles with doom/stoner metal and a bit of experimental by a band that is still firmly rooted in punk and hardcore.  What's that sound like?  Well, my favorite track of this record is Runes, decadencia and I will describe that for you.  Some of Nirvana's dirtiest songs coming at you like a plodding neanderthal with a club beating the fuck out of everything in it's path.  A heavy rhythm section drives with guitar skronk all over the background.  There isn't much music in the world that makes me want to take some bong hits and simultaneously throw a brick at your shitty face.  Sand in stomach.  Blood in hands.  Lead in books.  Ruins, decadence.  That's just one song anyway.  Other stuff that may matter to you is UNA BESTIA INCONTROLABLE hail from Spain and is the creation of folks responsible for DESTINO FINAL, GLAM and INVASION.

SATANIC THREAT - In To Hell LP $18.00
When members of metal bands NUNSLAUGHTER and MIDNIGHT, and members from punk bands 9 SHOCKS TERROR and GORDON SOLIE MOTHERFUCKERS decide to colab. to celebrate their love of metal and hardcore while having fun, songs that contain reworked MINOR THREAT lyrics about hating god is a reasonable outcome.  This record is a reissue of SATANIC THREAT's ep, that disappeared rather quickly as I recall, on the A side with additional songs recorded live on the flip side.  Comes on some pretty clear red/white vinyl that matches the cover.  Cute.

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

First new records should be in early next week.  A great reissue and some hardcore from over seas.  Sucks it is an expensive bunch, but more on that later.
